Most Amazing Thing about Apple Watch

If you ask several people what they think is the most extraordinary feature or aspect of the newly announced Apple Watch, they will give you many answers:

  • Style
  • Display
  • Heartbeat
  • Taptic Feedback
  • Apple Pay
  • Apps
  • Flexibility

To me, however, the most extraordinary aspect is the custom chip that drives the whole system – the S1.

This tiny chip, smaller than the face of the watch itself, coated in protective resin – this tiny thing is a complete computer. The Watch is essentially a miniaturized iPhone (minus the cellular radio and Wifi). The processor in turn is a smaller version of the A7. Clearly it is not nearly as powerful as its larger cousin, but the basic design is most likely the same.

Undoubtedly this is one of the reasons that the Watch had to wait so long to be released. They had to wait for chip technology to reach the level of miniaturization to make this design possible.
